Open Letter to the Students of NCC

December 2, 2014

Dear Students of Nassau Community College:

Somebody must do something about the parking! I am a student attending Nassau Community College and I know how difficult finding parking in a spot where you won't get a ticket is. Finding parking at school is very stressful and is the main cause of my latenesses, and I'm sure many others as well.

Teacher parking outside next to the buildings where class is held is convenient for faculty, but students are not allowed to park in those spots. I feel like that is not fair because students must walk far distances to get to class in the winter. Teachers and students both have the same shared responsibility to get to class on time.

Finding a close spot to class in the first couple of parking rows is impossible! A parking garage is a more convenient approach to this situation. Unfortunately whoever designed the parking area did not have the students needs in mind.

Besides the fact that teachers are blessed with great close parking, many of the parking spots in the faculty lots are vacant. Why can't we take those parking spots if they are vacant all day? The situation should be readjusted fairly for both students and teachers.

Being late can affect somebody's grade. Nobody wants to fail because latenesses. Not only is the mile walk to class horrible, but as it snows or rains the journey becomes even worse.

Nassau Community College must change the rules for parking. Students must come together to solve this parking crisis. By complaining to the school, students will have a voice in the decisions of the parking rules. We pay for school, the school should work with its students to create a better environment for those who attend. If students keep complaining the school will be forced to do something about this.

Sincerely,

Giancarlo Rivera
