Gangster Party

Hey you! Yeah you! Yous invited to the "families" Christmas party. All the bosses are going to be there. I think you should pay your respects.

You know how the Don is, leave your problems home. Louie the Wrench is running security. You know what happened to the last guy Louie wrenched? Neither do I but I don't want to find out.

This here party starts five pm. Its at cousin Gino's house in Jersey. He lives in the middle of the freakin' woods, would you believe this guy?

The dress code is strict. Anybody not wearing a suit and tie may get mistaken for trash and thrown out. It would be a shame if you ended up in the garbage disposal for disrespecting the Don's wishes. For ladies, dress to impress.

I hope you brought some earplugs because all the music is old school Italian music. Sure every song sounds the same but hey, somebody got to listen to it. Plus the manager of the band owes me a few favors.

The party is going to be great. The families never been closer. Just don't fugetaboutit.

Open Letter to the Students of NCC

December 2, 2014

Dear Students of Nassau Community College:

Somebody must do something about the parking! I am a student attending Nassau Community College and I know how difficult finding parking in a spot where you won't get a ticket is. Finding parking at school is very stressful and is the main cause of my latenesses, and I'm sure many others as well.

Teacher parking outside next to the buildings where class is held is convenient for faculty, but students are not allowed to park in those spots. I feel like that is not fair because students must walk far distances to get to class in the winter. Teachers and students both have the same shared responsibility to get to class on time.

Finding a close spot to class in the first couple of parking rows is impossible! A parking garage is a more convenient approach to this situation. Unfortunately whoever designed the parking area did not have the students needs in mind.

Besides the fact that teachers are blessed with great close parking, many of the parking spots in the faculty lots are vacant. Why can't we take those parking spots if they are vacant all day? The situation should be readjusted fairly for both students and teachers.

Being late can affect somebody's grade. Nobody wants to fail because latenesses. Not only is the mile walk to class horrible, but as it snows or rains the journey becomes even worse.

Nassau Community College must change the rules for parking. Students must come together to solve this parking crisis. By complaining to the school, students will have a voice in the decisions of the parking rules. We pay for school, the school should work with its students to create a better environment for those who attend. If students keep complaining the school will be forced to do something about this.

Sincerely,

Giancarlo Rivera

Informal Response to "Digital verses Print"

Digital is improving print materials in our everyday lives. Digital technology is necessary for use in our society because we are a fast paced society and digital technology helps accomplish a lot with precision faster than written paper methods. In Jerusha's blog post, "Digital verses Print," she argues valid points on how digital is better than print. People need technology to get by.

Print obtains only certain information while you can find any types of information searching on the internet. Jerusha states "People are not subjected to what is right there on paper" (Jerusha), and she is correct. Using the internet anyone has access to a world wide system of information.

Print produces waste and littering. Digital uses energy which is not as a burden as what print does.  She says "When a person does not want something from the internet all they would have to do is press delete and it is gone and no waste" (Jerusha), which is true because on the internet you can delete anything you have saved. In print you would have to edit it and reprint using more paper which takes up too much time and physical space.

People can express ideas through the internet to share with the world.  The internet demonstrates Freedom of Speech, people's ability to say what they feel.  Jerusha is correct when she states,"With the internet people can get what they wrote to anyone all over the world rather than just a local bookstore" (Jerusha). Instead of going to a book store for information, you can easily acquire a digital device to search for the information. Digital technology can help somebody share their ideas of information worldwide.

Social media is an internet device that allows someone to connect with distant relatives and friends. Anyone can share information and photos on their social media friends. She states "Social media has opened a line of communication for a lot of people that have lost touch over the years" (Jerusha), and she is right because the internet really as opened new possibilities of communication. Social media is a great way to keep up with new information and communicate.

Digital has made print materials outdated. In a few years, everyone will rather use technology than use paper material for communication or information. People should switch to digital because it is more efficient in our society today. By switching to digital our society can accomplish more in a shorter time period.

Digital versus Print

Digital is becoming the future.  In "Why Digital is Better than Print" Dan Blank states how digital is the improved way of  print. Most of the population can not get through the day without using some type of technology.  Technology is taking over the world.

When someone is researching through textbooks, the needed information won't be fully obtained. When searching on the web, if one does not understand text, they can look it up quicker than searching through the index or other books. Dan Blank states "each piece of information separate from another – and certainly separate from services that can extract more value." (2), information comes from all types of sources but digital sources express more valuable information.

Technology is an easier way to obtain all the information one needs through gigabytes. Instead of carrying around a newspaper that only states certain information, one can search for whatever they desire. The noise of Turing pages on paper material can be an annoyance to certain people.  According to Blank "Once you digitize something, you unleash a world of possibilities" (3), which is true in the sense that digital can obtain all the information in the world. On the web, information is infinite and any data can be easily searched with a device.

People can easily communicate quicker and easier. Instead of mailing out a letter and waiting, a person can send a text or email that sends automatically.  Blank states "As we find personal connection more and more in the digital realm, the reasons for avoiding it will slip away" (7), meaning digital communication is the easiest way to communicate with someone as everyone is in transition from print to digital. A person can buy anything online instead of going to the store or even pay a bill online. Technology is transforming us to be more time efficient and get things done the easier way.

Digital is more efficient than print and will eventually replace print. Technology has unlimited access to information and can store that information forever. Everybody should own a computer because it is replacing paper as the world changes. The internet connects the world much faster and easier than sending a letter. The world is switching to digital because of its efficiency.
